After spending a few years freelancing
for UPI I started my first staff job at
the Honolulu Star-Bulletin, in Honolulu,
Hawaii in 1972, allowing me to surf in
the early mornings and cover the news
the rest of the day.  After five years I
was promoted  to Chief Photographer.
Traveled through out the Pacific
including American Samoa,  Hawaiian
Islands, Midway Island, Wake Island.
My assignments included Emperor
Hirohito's visit, Elvis Presley's world
wide televised concert, return of
POW's from Vietnam.

wide range of assignments for UPI,
everything from the Mark Twain frog
jumping contest to the Mt. St. Helens
eruption. Some of my major
assignments for UPI included the
Winter Olympics, NBA playoffs,
NCAA basketball finals, Presidential
campaigns including
Ronald Reagan's
presidential campaign and inauguration.

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
Since 1981 I have worked for The
Associated Press in Washington as a
staff photographer covering the White
House, summits, inaugurations, shuttle
launches, Summer Olympics, Winter
Olympics and international stories
around the world. I was involved in the
early use of digital cameras, including

he put his hand down after being sworn
in using an
experimental electronic
camera.
